SUMMARY:Installation of: MaSh-UP VIII: See-Space\, Experimental Placemaking
DESCRIPTION:Come on down to the cSpace Eau Claire Hub @ 326 3rd Avenue SW – Lot #197 and interact with installation artist Be. during his newest iteration of MaSh-UP\, ask questions\, make suggestions\, or just hang. Featuring new works only showcased abroad for the last iteration\, MaSh-UP VII: Jetzt mal Butter bei die Fische {Now Butter for the Fish} in Bremerhaven\, Germany for ArtSpace Bremerhaven 2022\, and projections featured in ‘Game Over’ Berlin; this will be the first showing of these new additions to MaSh-UP in the projects home country. \nWhat is a MaSh-UP?\nMaSh-Up is a mixed media installation wherein all the methods that I utilize collide and respond to specific locations. The work is ever changing as I add\, discard or alter parts. On several occasions I’ve removed sections of the gallery’s dry wall\, repurposing it in the next iteration; thereby I create an additive progression that references the durational nature of the project that builds its own history and narrative through its inventory. \nI cut paintings in halves\, thirds\, quarters\, etc.\, for the installation in order to bend them in and around corners or up onto ceilings and floors. In addition to installing finished works\, new iterations are created on the gallery walls. The ‘additions’ I make to my finished works create repetitious patterns with wooden shapes/forms\, cast concrete\, stencilled images\, and direct serigraph prints onto the gallery wall to adorn the entirety of the space and bring all elements together into a cohesive whole. \nSculpture plinths are addressed in a similar manner\, harmonized with paintings and drawings with shelving attachments which display multiple works. Plasma torch\, hand-cut\, steel panels and sculptural renderings in the same intuitive-line are hung throughout the space which cast their shadows adding to the cacophony of visual cues. Also\, found objects collected over the period of this installation will be added to this amalgam referencing the element of continuum and site. \nThe entirety of the gallery or space becomes one work and the outcome reflects the many facets of my practice both formally and conceptually. This marks the beginning of the transition from space into place which highlights notions of placemaking embedded in my interdisciplinary art practice.
