DESCRIPTION:One Love\nAs visitors to Equinox Vigil in Calgary’s Union Cemetery may recall\, we offered globes for participants to hold and care for during the event. We did this as a gesture of love and support and also to provide solace as we often feel grief for our planet and the state of climate change. \nWe invite folks to gather and hear Calgary’s Poet Laureate perform and to experience in a small way the love for our planet. Free globes will be given out to the first 20 visitors. This may be an outdoor procession depending on the weather. Indoor capacity is limited to 30 people. Check the front door of the Curious Yellow Shop for hours! \nAwake and Still Drowning\nDustin Harvey\nJan 21 – 27 \nDustin Harvey of Secret Theatre (Halifax) joins us in residence to workshop AWAKE AND STILL DROWNING\, a cautionary fable about the day Nova Scotia becomes an island. It is a tale told through a combination of digital and live performance in which watching and performing signify the high cost of human migration when the exploited ocean takes back what is hers. The experience takes a simple approach to the interactive medium\, allowing audience members to simultaneously play the protagonist’s part\, a flock of little white birds living by the shoreline.

Jan. 30 at 7:00pm\nhttps://forms.gle/dAoPno2XHwyxfZ2p6 \nQueens\, Clowns and Fools is an introduction to pathways for new work creation that address\, invokes\, or involves an audience’s presence directly into performance. \nAs taught by multi-award-winning drag clown Justin Miller (aka Pearle Harbour)\, this class aims to equip its participants with the skills to tear down (or at least peek around) the fourth wall\, tap into their impulse and imagination\, and open themselves up to the risk\, surprise\, and love that can arise when performer authentically listen to their audience\, and respond urgently to hug the calamity in the room. Using tenants of Pochinko clown\, bouffon\, direct address\, cabaret\, commedia dell’arte\, butoh\, and contemporary drag\, participants will tap into a presentational form that is both ancient and entirely in the moment. \nThis class is ideal for actors\, drag queens\, comedians\, clowns\, storytellers\, solo and interdisciplinary performers\, lecturers\, anyone who has the courage to stand in front of someone else and entertain with both their wits and their heart.

Brown & Wayne Garrett \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhotos from the Glenbow Archives\, found here. \n\nIn response to the history of cSPACE Eau Claire as the former offices and vault for the Eau Claire & Bow River Lumber Company\, we invite artists & sculptors to join us in crafting a collaborative interlocking lumber sculpture. We will provide lumber\, and artists will create sculptures following (and breaking) any conventions they desire\, with the caveat that their work must\, at some point\, intersect with the sculptures around them. You may choose to work collaboratively\, or design a piece by yourself\, but the object of the experiment is to link the pieces together into one\, giant\, growing\, organic structure – in a futile effort to reanimate the wood and keep it alive. \nAt the summary of the exhibition\, all wood will be repurposed for future projects. \nThis event was inspired in part by Khalid Omokanye’s socially distanced collaborative sculpture\, ISOLATED BABEL\, for The Hibernation Project 2021. \n\nLet us know if you want to participate! \n\nYou don’t need to RSVP to visit the Public Exhibition \n\nThe Hibernation Project is an art intervention occurring annually from Winter to Spring. Featuring a live band and communal movement games\, this slow dance gives dancers the opportunity to question their relationship to touch\, movement\, music\, sensation\, space\, and what the heck dancing even is. \nThe theme of this edition is Hiding and Seeking while dancing. We invite dancers to explore the theme through games and challenges that structure the event. We will provide an example of the games and challenges so you can get a sense of whether this will be fun for you sometime before the event. \nP.S.  \n\nYou don’t have to bring a partner.\nWe will bring props but feel free to bring your own.\nWear whatever makes you feel like dancing.\nThere will be a few snacks and lots of water.
